Wohooo! A couple of weeks ago, Nicole from Bad With Directions, nominated me for the Blogger Recognition Award. This is my second award in only 4 months! Nicole and I have been blogging for about the same amount of time now and have been tackling this blogging world since the beginning! I’m so thankful that there are people out there who enjoy reading my content and connecting with me!
Blogger Recognition Award
- Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
- Write a post to show your award.
- Give a brief story of how your blog started.
- Share two pieces of advice for new bloggers!
- Choose 8 other bloggers you want to give this award to (originally 15, but Nicole narrowed it down to 7 and I decided to add another because “8 is a lucky number in China, haha”)
- Let them know you have nominated them. Provide the link to the post you created.
This all started when I left to study abroad in China. I wanted to update people and send them pictures of my experiences. This was my first time out of the country and only my third time out of the state of Texas. I didn’t really know about blogging back in 2014, all I knew was that I can send people emails and maybe attach some pictures to it.
It was a CRAPPY system! Gmail would only let me attach 6 pictures at a time. Couple that with VPN issues, it was not good.
So, I created TooChineseForU.wordpress.com. This was my first attempt at blogging. I chose the name “TooChineseForU” because my Chinese-American friends would joke that I was super Chinese, maybe more Chinese than them! It’s because all I did was study Chinese, talk about China and even ditched out all my forks and knives for a set of chopsticks.
However, this blog wasn’t going anywhere on a free platform and I was not consistent posting!
It wasn’t until this past summer when I was at home waiting on my new Chinese work visa that I started researching about blogging and realized that I had a wealth of information to offer. I bought my own domain, created a Pinterest business account, subscribed to tons of blogs and *aaaaaaaahhh* the birth of toochineseforu.com
I’m super excited to start writing my blog business plan after Blogtober and getting more involved in the blogging community!

Advice For New Bloggers
You don’t have to master everything at once!
I think when I first started, I was receiving so much information and I thought I needed to do all 20 of these things at once in order for my blog to be great! I tried to balance 4 or 5 different social accounts at once with no planner, no scheduler, and no idea how to create content and graphics. Because of this I felt so defeated and overwhelmed. However, I realized that I needed a plan, and setting small achievable goals works better for me!
Be careful of like for like engagement groups on Facebook!
Of course not everyone on there are horrible people who don’t want to reciprocate, but honestly the people who are engaged with my blog now are those who actually enjoy reading my content. I have made genuine blogging friends and online friends by participating in other groups based off genuine engagement and not like for like. It’s wiser to spend your time reading and implementing smarter methods to increase traffic on your blog!
YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN! MWAHAHAHA. Hehe, I look forward to reading your posts 😀 Thank you so much for impacting me during my blogging journey. Much love!
